"The steps in a creative process are often unpredictable. Although I have
had an interest in designing and creating since childhood, I grew up in an
environment in which these passions met with ignorance and resistance. This
way, at the age of sixteen, I ended up not in an art academy but in the
construction business. The creative flame, however, was far from
extinguished, but indeed became bigger
as I developed a specific interest in constructions, installations and
architecture. Because these interests, nurtured on a daily basis from the
fields of architecture and interior design, did not find a fruitful basis
within the discourse of the construction site, I took the step to fully invest
my time in designing and creating my furniture and objects from 2000 onwards.
With the establishment of my studio, several invitations for exhibitions, I feel that I am finally getting where I was always meant to be. I try to mediate the authentic feeling associated with the house, with the ‘being where you belong’, through my furniture. Chasing dreams, taking alternative routes, overcoming obstacles and becoming stronger through this, that is what it has always been about.
From my atelier, where I have been working since 2000, I create high-end furniture according from used materals. A love for nature and the intimate relationship with my material in the craft of production presents pieces made from materials that are often seen as unusable scrap ready for the dump. By conserving these materials and giving them a new function, I extend the lives of otherwise discarted materials, giving them a durable character. Especially the use of old tile laths, which are normally used in the structure of roofs, are a good example of the process in which old materials are given an ecological treatment that makes them durable and extends their usable worth with hundreds of years.
